Wilma Matusik

Wilma A. (Hutton) Hilligas Matusik, 96, of Cadiz went to be with her Lord on Monday, September 27, 2021 at her home. She was born June 6, 1925 in Cadiz, Ohio a daughter of the late James Alonzo and Maggie Mae Duvall Hutton.

She attended Cadiz High School. Wilma was a cook and pie baker at Bertchy’s Restaurant, Eagles’s Nest, Coultrap’s and R&F Coal Company. She also worked at Cadiz Drive In and Italian Express Caboose ice cream stand. Wilma was head of housekeeping at Harrison Community Hospital for several years and helped raise funds to build the hospital. She was well known for her fabulous pies and cooking.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz and Rural Women’s Circle. Wilma was 4H advisor for the Foxes Bottom 4H Club for many years.

Wilma loved her faithful companion, her Bichon Frise dog, Maurice. She loved and enjoyed playing with her cats. Wilma enjoyed the life living on the farm. She loved working in her gardens and flower beds. She took pride and pleasure in decorating her home, barn and yard for Christmas with help from her family.

Her greatest joy was teaching her children and grandchildren how to make pies, cook and canning. Wilma looked forward to and enjoyed good times with family, friends and neighbors.

Special thank you to the nurses and therapists of Stonerise at Home Care. Also, the nurses from Stonerise Hospice for the excellent care given to our Mother and the visits from Pastor Herb.

She was preceded in death by her husbands: R. Paul Hilligas and John Matusik, Sr; her siblings: Dorothy Runyan Young, Eileen Barnhart, Frances Nolan, James Hutton and Paul “Bud” Hutton; grandson, Tommy “Tank” Hilligas; granddaughter, Velvet Matusik; her son, R. Eugene HIlligas; stepsons: Johnny and Walter Matusik; daughter in law, Karen Matusik and son in law, Richard E. Greenwood.

Surviving are her daughter, Lena (Richard) Greenwood of Barnesville; son, James (Roberta) Hilligas of Cadiz; stepsons: Bernard (Bonnie) Matusik of Adena, Robert (Marie) Matusik and Dan (Denise) Matusik both of St. Clairsville, Roger Matusik of Scio and Tommy (Lisa) Matusik of Florida; 18 grandchildren including: Paul Hilligas, Amy Hilligas Morrison, Jeffrey Greenwood, Paul and Paulette Matusik, Robbie and Natalie Matusik, Ronnie and Rhonda Matusik, Jack Matusik, Ricky, Todd and Tammy Matusik, Kimberly, Michael, Becky Lynn, Lori and Kristina Matusik;  and 29 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 1 from 2-9 at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Herb Alexander from Stonerise Hospice          at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, 154 West Market Street, Cadiz, Ohio 43907. Interment will be at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Due to the Covid Pandemic the family requests masks be worn during visitation and the funeral service.
