William Harmon Harris, 79, of Cadiz, died Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Harrison County Home, Cadiz. He was born in Wheeling Township, Belmont County, Ohio September 2, 1932 the son of Jessie E. and Lucy Lucile Harris. He received Christian Baptism June 11, 1933 at Crab Apple Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Franklin High School in New Athens, Ohio Class of 1950 and worked as a technician for Bauer Ford Sales, Inc. for 20 years. He later taught Auto Mechanics at Belmont Technical College until his medical retirement on December 1, 1988. During his years at BTC, his classes won many major troubleshooting awards at high level competitions. He was a professional musician, playing with several groups in the area and at one time had his own band, the H & M Rhythm Makers. He played the piano, organ, clarinet, guitar, violin, and the ancient calliope. He was also a radio and television repairman, electrician, gunsmith, hunter, fisherman, and held a Brown Belt in Judo that he earned as a member of a Judo Club in Pittsburgh in 1964. He married Helen J. DeCorte on June 19, 1975. He joined the New Athens Presbyterian Church in 1995. He was a member of the Flushing Masonic Lodge #298, several Radio Clubs and was a Volunteer Examiner Amateur Radio Service, Skywarn Spotter for National Weather Service, Stumptown Steamers where he was named Thresherman of the Year in 2009. During the last several years of his life he became an avid reader and checked out hundreds of books from the Puskarich Public Library. He lived his life according to this scripture-"In Quietness And In Trust Shall Be Your Strength"-Isaiah 30-15. He is survived in addition to his wife; by a stepdaughter, Jana Ferrell and her husband Ray of Cadiz; granddaughters: Lalaynia Van Alstine of Augusta, Georgia, Laura (Shane) Cope, and Lisa Ferrell all of Cadiz; and 4 great grandsons: James and Reed Van Alstine and Grant and Taylor Cope. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz.
