Willard L. Smith, 89, of Moorefield, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 24, 1935, in Hendricks, West Virginia, a son of the late Otha and Florene Smith.
Throughout his working career he was a high lift operator and worked at Crozier Lumber in Freeport, Ohio. Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by two sons, Willard A. Smith and Jeffrey Smith I; a daughter, Annette Vale; two grandsons, Thomas “Tom” Johnson and Jeffrey Smith II; son-in-law, Russell Bowersock, Sr.; five brothers, Jack, Joe, Denzel, Donald and Bradley Smith; two sisters, Genevieve Sumuga and Kathleen Cruse-Smith; brothers-in-law, Kenny and Frank Persons; sister and brother in-law Janette and Ed Dean; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Persons.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Persons Smith; three daughters, Penny Bowersock of Moorefield, Ohio, Ruth Smith of Moorefield, Ohio and Rebecca (Jonathan) White of Moorefield, Ohio; a son, Loyd Smith of New Philadelphia, Ohio; a son-in-law, Guy Vale of Deersville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; multiple great grandchildren; four brothers, Bernard (Nancy) Smith of Toledo, Ohio, Harold (Kathy) Smith of Uhrichsville, Ohio, and Harlen (Linda) Smith of Bowerston, Ohio, Ralph (Nancy) Carpenter of Spencer, West Virginia; three sisters, Margaret Caldwell of Newcomerstown, Ohio, Mary Ann (Bobby) Harshey of Uhrichsville, Ohio, and Barbara Foster (companion Todd Sowards) of Sherrodsville, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Sinda Persons of Canton, Ohio and Carol Persons of Venice, Florida; and many nieces and nephews .
