Virginia R. Cope of Cadiz, died Friday January 4th , 2008 at the Arbors of Hilliard in Hilliard, Ohio. She was born in Cadiz on August 16th 1922, the daughter and youngest child of Frank J. and Marianina Schirippa Maffeo. Virginia Maffeo graduated from Cadiz High School in 1940 and in 1941 married Donovan D. Cope then of Scio. Don and Virginia moved to Cleveland to pursue work and later moved back to Cadiz where Don was drafted into the Army-Air Corps for service in World War II where he was trained as a photographer and flew missions in the South Pacific. In the 1950�s Don and Virginia purchased the Cadiz Photo Studio from Paul Marchese and Virginia began her career as a partner with Don in the photographic business. Over the years the two photographed thousands of people and their families from all over Harrison County and Eastern, Ohio. Upon Don�s death in 1973 Virginia took over sole responsibility for Cope�s Studio and continued the work she and Don started until her retirement in 1988. Virginia was a talented artist winning awards for her photography by the Ohio Association of Professional Photographers. She touched the lives of many of the children who graduated from the schools in Harrison Hills and was known for her fastidious attention to straightening clothes and combing hair of children from kindergarten to seniors in high school. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Don, her father Frank, mother Marianina Schirippa Maffeo, brothers Frank, Joe and Sal. Surviving are her daughters Beth Karver and her husband, Robert of Whitehall, Mary Lou Shepherd and her husband, James of Huntington, WV, her son Michael Cope and his wife, Darlene of Hilliard and six grandchildren, Michael Karver, Amy Shepherd Cunningham, Bobbie Karver, Angela Cope, Lisa Cope, Nathan Cope and three great grandchildren Chance Brody, Brandon Brody, and Katelyn Cunningham. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Inc., Cadiz, 1-3 and 6-8. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Fr. Thomas Vennitti officiating. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cadiz High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, c/o James Kenny, 242 S.
