Tom Edwards

Tom Edwards, 79, passed peacefully, Saturday, July 7, 2007 at his home in New Athens, Ohio. He was born March 30, 1928 in New Athens, the son of Norval and Beatrice Swindell Edwards. Tom supported the New Athens United Methodist Church and the New Athens Volunteer Fire Department; he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America having retired from Consolidated Coal Company in 1983; he was a exceptional athelete at Franklin High School and became a lifetime member of the Franklin Museum; in addition to being an avid hunter, fisherman, craftsman and woodworker; he enjoyed gardening and listening toBluegrass Music. He was a loved father, grandfather and great grandfather. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Dean Edwards and a sister Betty Carter. Tom is survived by 3 sons: Dale Edwards and his wife Margaret of Cadiz, Gary Edwards and his wife Paula of St. Clairsville, and Ronnie Edwards of New Athens and Jayne Panebianco of St. Clairsville ; 2 daughters: Sherry Lackman and her husband Tom of St. Clairsville and Teresa Lauffer and husband Chuck of Flushing; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 2 brothers: Max Edwards of St. Clairsville, and Jim Edwards and his wife Shirley of New Athens; a sister, Donna Collins of Milan, Illinois; a number of nieces and nephews; his former wife, Frances Edwards of New Athens; and his longtime companion, Catherine Darlene Solvey. Calling hours are Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 10 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Al Hoder officiating.
