Ronald Dean Huffman, 75, of New Athens, died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Cumberland Pointe Care Center in St. Clairsville. He was born February 10, 1937 in Flushing, Ohio, a son of the late Clarence and Hazel Minerva Laizure Huffman. Ron was a member of the New Athens United Methodist Church. He was a former shift foreman at Y&O Coal Company, where he worked for 33 years. He was a retired mechanic from Sterling Farm Equipment in Sterling, OH. He was a member of the UMWA, the Civil War Roundtable of the Ohio Valley, the Harrison County Historical Society, and a former member of the New Athens Village Council. He was a volunteer at the Harrison County Tourism and Visitors Center, the Franklin Museum and the Harrison County History of Coal Museum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his rescue dog, Molly. Surviving are his wife, Carol Keyser Huffman; two sons, Edgar (Lee Anne) Huffman of Wooster, Dean (Sandy) Huffman of Burbank OH; five daughters, Cheri Huffman of New Athens, Laurie (Guy) Merryman of Cadiz, Denise (Ron) Peters of Lafayette, IN, Beverly (John) Gamble of Scio, Kara (Kevin) Redman of Columbus; sixteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Patricia) Huffman of New Athens; a sister Donna (James, Sr.) Runevitch of Harrisville. Friends may call Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 2-8 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the New Athens United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Little and Rev. James Willson officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery.
