Riley Cassell

Riley S. Cassell, 76, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio. He was born September 9, 1934 in Cadiz, Ohio a son of the late Roy and Etoilla Lincoln Cassell. He retired from the U.S Navy after 20 years of service. He also worked for the former Leeser Meat Market, was a Custodian for Cadiz High School. He worked for Consolidation Coal Co. at Franklin #125 and Oak Park Mines and Hillsboro Mine in Illinois and Bailey Mine in PA. He retired from Consol in December 1993 after twenty years. He also worked for SEA in Dover, OH. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, N. Main St., Cadiz from 1971 to 2009. He was Past Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and was a Sunday School Teacher. He resided in New Philadelphia and joined the First Christian Church there in November 2010. He served nine years on the Cadiz Fire Department and seven years on the Cadiz Emergency Squad. A Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he received the following medals: National Defense, Korean Services, U.N. four Good Conduct, Vet. Services and Campaign. An active Mason, he was a member of the North Chicago Lodge #1095, Harrison Lodge #219, Cadiz Chapter #171 (former High Priest), Grand Council Royal and Select Masons, Tuscarawas Council #109 (former Select Master, Super Excellent Master and Illustrious Master), St. Bernard Commandry #51 (former Commander), Red Cross Order of Malta, Ohio Priory #18 (former Commander), Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville (former Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret). He was the former District Deputy High Priest of the 15th Capitular District. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Etoilla Cassell, brother John, sister Tina Lee St. Marie, sister-in-law Ruth, Phyllis and Winifred Cassell, brother-in-law Bob St. Marie. Surviving are his wife Frankie (Dot) Booth Cassell, whom he married on March 8, 1963, three sons, Randy (Dana) McEndree of Hendersonville, NC, Michael (Michele) Cassell of Winder, GA, Patrick (companion Jennifer Horner) Cassell of New Philadelphia, OH, a daughter Charlene (Mike) Bigler of New Philadelphia, three grandchildren, Britney Bigler, Kayla and Travis Cassell, one great grandson Jacob Daniel Riley Cassell of Great Lakes, IL, Step grandsons Jermey and Christopher Leech of Winder, GA, Brother Charles Tom Cassell of Ada, OH, nieces Nancy (companion Thurman Haning) Clark of Pomeroy, OH, great niece Jerica (companion L.J. Mitch) of Middleport, OH, great great nieces, Kylee and Kymber Mitch of Middleport, OH, numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends. Friends may call Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, OH where service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Paul Giffin of Cadiz, OH and Jim Bolten of New Philadelphia, OH officiating. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Short Creek Cemetery near Georgetown, OH where military honors will be performed by the Cadiz American Legion. Online condolences may be made at www.clark-kirkland.com.
