Richard Wood, Sr.

Richard L. Wood, Sr., 71 of Hopedale, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born February 21, 1950 in Hopedale, Ohio a son of the late George William and Doris Ann Kersey Ward, Sr.

Richard was a member of the Hopedale Church of Christ, the United Mineworkers of America and the Hopedale Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan. He worked at Y&O Nelms #1 in Unionvale and then retired form Y&O Nelms #2 in Hopedale, Ohio.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; by his wife, Martha Diane Barnhart Wood on April 12, 2009.

Surviving are his son, Richard L. (Pamela) Wood, Jr.; 2 daughters: Sondra Miser and Shonna (Ed) Stringer all of Hopedale; 5 Grandchildren: Mindy, Lewis, Gabrielle (Kendall), Todd and Holly; 2 Great Grandchildren: Diesel and Phoenix Tallevast; 2 brothers: Gene (Fern) Wood, Sr. of Hopedale and Bill (Kathy) Ward, Jr. of Macedonia; 4 sisters: Sharon (Bruce) Wade of Unionvale, Sue (John) Blawut of Hopedale, Deb (Bill) Decker of Hopedale and Rhonda (Tony) Kinzie of Cadiz; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 5:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz with Dean Blythe officiating. The family asks that you wear a facial covering and observe social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in his honor to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center, 3204 Johnson Road, Steubenville, Ohio 43952.
