Richard Thomas Tarter, 60, of Adena, formerly of Bridgeport, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at East Ohio Regional Hospital. He was born December 30, 1947 in Martins Ferry, Ohio a son of the late Otto F. and Eunice Brooks Tarter. He was the owner and operator of the Cadiz Drive-Thru, Inc.; the former owner and operator of J.T.�s General Store (Jewel Tea); and was a former employee of Wheeling Machine Products. He was a member of St. Teresa�s Catholic Church in Cadiz; the Maynard Polish Club and the Maynard Sportsmans Club. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in law, Charles (Bud) Ledger and grandmother-in-law, Mildred White. Surviving are his wife, Karen Ledger Tarter (They would have celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on December 10, 2008.); 3 brothers: Joseph S. Tarter and Michael L. (Rosanne) Tarter all of Bridgeport, and John H. (Patricia) Tarter of Avon Lake; 2 sisters: Eunice R. Krin of Streetsboro and Sara L. Mudrick of Bridgeport; 5 nieces, 3 nephews, a great niece; and mother-in-law, Edith Maxine Ledger of Cadiz. Friends may call from 2-8, Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Teresa�s Catholic Church in Cadiz by Rev. Fr. Timothy McGuire. Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Belmont County or Marshall County Animal Shelters in memory of his beloved dogs, Cookie and Molly.
