Richard Dwight Smith, 70, of Cadiz, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at Carriage Inn of Cadiz. He was born October 8, 1936 in Nottingham Township, Harrison County, Ohio a son of Esther Johnson Smith of Cadiz and the late Ralph ''Red'' Dwight Smith. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1954 and worked at the First National Bank of Cadiz, Ohio from 1956 until 1974 as an assistant cashier and then moved to Florida where he worked at Stuart National Bank of Stuart, Florida from 1974 to 1986 as a Senior Vice President and the worked at Indian River Appraisers of Florida form 1986 to 1992. He served in the Army Reserves from 1959 to 1965. He was a member of Harrison Lodge #219 F.&A.M. and was a member of Scott Memorial United Methodist Church in Cadiz, Ohio. He loved to sing and was a member of the Scott Memorial United Methodist Church choir, was a member of the Hill and Valley Barbershop Chorus, The Mountaineer Quartet, and the Schoenbrunn Valley Barbershop Chorus. Richard was afflicted with various illnesses since 1992 and has resided at the Carriage Inn of Cadiz since February 15, 2002. He was a model patient in all that he had to endure, never complained and always had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death in addition to his father, by a brother Ronald ''Ron'' Smith. He is survived in addition to his mother; by a son, Richard Dale (Jeri) Smith, Macon, Georgia; 2 daughters: Judy Lynn Merritt of Woodstock, Georgia and Lori Ann (Michael) Burkhart of Barnesville, Ohio; a sister in law, Christine Smith of Dover, Ohio; 3 grandchildren: Connor Merritt and Kyle and Nichole Burkhart; 2 aunts: Joyce Johnson of New Straitsville, Ohio and Elda Taylor of Cadiz, Ohio. Calling hours are Tuesday, February 13, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Cemetery, Deersville, Ohio.
