Raymond David "Sam" Barnhart, 48, of Gray, Tennessee, formerly of Cadiz, Ohio, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at his home. He was born June 15, 1962 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Raymond Edward "Ted" Barnhart and the late Penny Griffiths Barnhart. Sam was a highly decorated officer in the United States Army, having retired as a First Sgt. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Bar, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-T Bar, U.S. Army Gold Recruiter Badge with 3 Sapphire Achievement Stars, and the French Forces Commando Badge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Barnhart. Surviving are his wife, Angela Kennedy Barnhart; a son, Josey Barnhart and a daughter, Hayleigh Barnhart, both of Portsmouth, Ohio; a step-daughter, Darby Dunford, of the home; two sisters, Shelly Whitman and Debra (Tim) Evans, both of Columbus, OH; an uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 S. Main St., Cadiz, Ohio, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. R.J. Leek officiating.
