Nettie Helen Smith

Nettie Helen Smith, 71, of Cadiz, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Alleghany General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was born October 26, 1951 in Dun Glen, Ohio a daughter of the late Lester Sherman and Betty Carpenter (Knisely) Porter.

Nettie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served 10 plus years. She graduated from Nursing School in 1984 and was a nurse for over 40 years. She worked for the Georgia Institute of Health, Lancia’s in Steubenville, Carriage Inn the Meadows of Cadiz, Harrison County Home and most recently Sienna in Wintersville, Ohio. She was an avid supporter of the Harrison County for the aging and worked there as well. She was very much involved with Easter Seals and was an avid Steelers fan.

Nettie was preceded in death in addition to her parents; by her sister, Victoria Porter; special nephew, Eric Porter; special friend, Frank Martino; and grandma, Betty Smith.

Surviving are her son, Jamie Smith of Cadiz; brother, Nick Carpenter of Adena, Ted Porter of Cadiz, and James Porter of Cadiz; sister, Deborah Wedlake of Cadiz; 2 special nieces: Tracy Carpenter of Cadiz and Marcy Stall of Tappan; stepson, Jason (Tina) Thomas of Cadiz; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 3:00 until time of funeral service at 5:30 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio with Rev. Pete Tuchek officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Hopedale American Legion. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
