Minnie Ann Barr, 71, Cadiz, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at her home. She was born October 13, 1937 in Nottingham Township, Harrison County, Ohio a daughter of the late Clarence and Amanda Nichols Sterling. Minnie Ann was a former waitress having worked at several local restaurants. She was the first woman coal miner to work in the field for the former R & F Coal Company, working as a drill operators assistant and driving an end dump. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Melvin A. Barr in 2005; a grandson, Walter Vitold Krupinski, III; a son-in-law, Terry Simms; a brother, George Sterling; and a sister, Ruth Crossen. Surviving are 4 daughters: Gail Simms of West Frankfort, Ill, Diane Filippi and her husband Andy of Cadiz, Jody Davis and her husband Ted of West Frankfort, Ill, Melody Stevens and her husband Christy of Great Falls, Montana; 2 sons: David Barr and his wife Trudy and Clint Barr and his wife Alice all of Cadiz; 10 grandchildren: Honey Simms, Amber Frady, Lucas and Scott Smith, Chad and Zachary Krupinski, Shyla Emery, Chelsee Barr, Jacob and Joyce Ann Barr; 8 great grandchildren; a sister in law, Norma Sterling of Grove City, Ohio and a brother in law, Larry Crossen of Ashland, Ohio. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ted Davis officiating.
