Milton McConnell Ronsheim, whose professional career spanned five decades, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at the Harrison County Home in Cadiz, Ohio. He was 88. Born July 20, 1921, in Cadiz, his parents were the late Milton and Isabel (McConnell) Ronsheim. He graduated from Cadiz High School in 1939 and the College of Wooster (Class of 1943), Wooster, Ohio. Milton served in the U.S. Army, 1942 â�" 1946, stationed at Camp Atterbury, IN. Following his discharge, he returned to the College of Wooster to complete his BA degree in 1947. Upon completion of his college education, he returned to Cadiz to work with his grandfather and father at The Cadiz Republican, where he eventually assumed the position of publisher. He married Nately Ramsay of Cadiz on October 4, 1942. They raised two children (Douglas Ronsheim, Pittsburgh, PA and Pamela Gibson, Cadiz, OH) and had many interests, including tennis, theater, classical music and travel. They shared a common love for the Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, NY, where they spent many summers. Nately and Milton also enjoyed traveling together as Volunteers in Mission for the Presbyterian Church, USA. Over a period of 20 years, they traveled and worked as volunteers in India (4 visits), Nepal (3 visits) and Switzerland (1 visit). Milton was also active in many local community endeavors. He was a long time member of the Harrison County Historical Society and served as a â�œchampionâ for Cadiz and Harrison County and their rich historical past. Milton was an active member and served as an Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz. In the broader faith community he served on various committees of the Upper Ohio Valley Presbytery. He was instrumental in the development and publication of The Connector, the Presbyteryâ�™s newspaper, which received several national awards for its quality. In April 2008, Milton was recognized for his 20 years of service to the Presbytery. In addition, during the late 50â�™s and early 60â�™s he served as a board member for the Wheeling Symphony. Other volunteer experiences extended into the educational arena. He was a board member of Belmont Technical College, St. Clairsville, OH from 1971-1992, serving as chairman from 1973-1975 and again from 1978-1992. A Trustee Emeritus, he was inducted as a member of the Heritage Tree in 2005. In his capacity as an active alumnus of the College of Wooster, he chaired the 50th Anniversary Fund Raising Campaign of the Class of 1943. In 1999 he was recognized for his exemplary volunteer leadership for the College and was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Volunteer Award. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nately of Cadiz; two children and Pamela (Greg) Gibson of Cadiz, Douglas (Maureen Emerling) of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Aric (Ariel Shea) Gibson, Aaron Ronsheim of Washington, DC and Wade (Kelley) Gibson of Westminster, CO; and one great-grandchild, Samuel Gregory Gibson of Westminster, CO. Also surviving are his sister, Mary (Thomas) Ford and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: John (survived by Eileen) Ronsheim, Robert (survived by Patricia) Ronsheim, and Samuel Ronsheim. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, Ohio. Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors at the church from 12:30 â�" 2:00.
