Mildred Irene Liggett Jenkins, born March 19, 1916 in Hopedale and died September 2, 2006 at Riverside Hospital. Daughter of Theodore Liggett, Jr. and Dora M. Cook Liggett, and later step-father, John McCarthy. On March 25, 1939 she was married to George Addison Jenkins by Rev. Patterson. His wife founded the United Methodist Women of which Irene became a charter member. She was a member of Scott Methodist Church in Cadiz for over 65 years; also member of the Gray Sunday school class and treasurer, baked bread for communion service, formed the Junior Service for Children and treasurer of the Ruth Circle. During her lifetime, she cooked for Blue-Star restaurant at the Scio Pottery, sold monuments for White Co. In Pennsylvania and vinyl siding for Compange Co. In Wheeling, W.VA... Irene was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3898 and #2062, Order of Eastern Star, Unionport #360 for over 50 years, the Moravian Trail #655-748, Daughters of the Revolution A.K. War, George A. Custer tent, and her grandfather was in the Civil War. Member of First Family of Harrison County, Cadiz and lifetime member of Genealogical Society. Her father passed away in 1925 when she was 9 then she became care giver of her younger brothers 6 and 3 while her mother and older sister worked. Later during her marriage she cared for her mother until her death and her father-in-law until his death on Christmas Eve. Later Irene and George moved to Dublin, Ohio to be close to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also took care of granddaughter Sheila while recovering from an operation due to an automobile accident and her grandson, Frank Jr.. Irene's life was dedicated to helping and serving other anyway she could, always putting others needs ahead of her own. Preceded in death by her husband, George, her mother and father, sister, Margaret Richards, brothers, Frances and Dean Liggett, sons-in-law, Robert Cox and Don Bardon. Survived by daughter, Cenia Cox; son, George and his wife Gina; grandchildren; Franklin Dowdle, Jr., Sheila Turrell, Sylvia and her husband Steve Johnson, Dawn and her husband, Johannes Asssen; great-grandchildren, Chad and Chelsee Williams, Darcy Johnson and twins, Joseph Anthony and Donald Robert Assen. Irene believed God blessed her life with a beautiful family and many dear friends. Every year her family traveled to Cadiz to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. George and Irene also invited their dear friends Mildred Hunt, Elizabeth Gray, Virginia Barricklow and Mrs. John Campbell to join and share in their family celebrations, always sending them all home with food care packages. Friends may call at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, Tuesday 6-8 then at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 South Main, Cadiz, Ohio Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8. Service will be held at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church, Cadiz, Ohio Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley, officiating. Interment in Cadiz Union Cemetery.
