Michael Stratas, 84, of Dennison, formerly of Martins Ferry, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Harrison County Home. His life reflected the love of both world and local travel, nature and the industry of working with his hands. He enjoyed gardening and lived for his various K-9 companions over the years. Until recently he could be seen walking with his dog, GeGe in Dover Park. He was born March 3, 1928 in Martins Ferry, a son of the late Mike G. and Edith Irene Atwood Stratas. Mike was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church near Dennison and was a Navy Veteran of WW II. He was retired after having worked as a steel worker at Timken Roller Bearing in Canton and Republic Steel in Massillon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters. Surviving are 2 daughters: Michaeleen (Michael) Chalut of St. Augustine, Florida and Sandra Neiman of Akron; 3 grandchildren: Matthew, Destiny, and Alexandra; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, George; and 2 sisters: Linda and Jenny. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 4195 Pleasant Valley Rd., SE, Dennison, OH. Pastor David Naus will officiate.
