Mazie Conrad, 81, of Sunnyslope Retirement Center, Bowerston, died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Harrison Community Hosptial, Cadiz, Ohio. She was born May 13, 1920 in Stock Twp., Harrison Co., Ohio, a daughter of the late George Howard and Ida L. Freeburn Smith. A Methodist by faith, she graduated from Scio High School and worked in Cadiz before going to Cleveland, where she worked for the government, was a taxi driver and a Telephone Operator for Ohio Bell Telephone for over thirty three years, until her retirement. She was a member of the Ohio Bell Telephone Pioneer Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Conrad and a brother, Walter Smith. Surviving are her daughter, Sherry Conrad of Lakewood; a sister, Lucille Huntsman Houze of Cadiz; a step daughter Donna Jean Chapel and a step son, Henry Conrad of Cleveland; a number of nieces and nephews, including Edward Smith of Cadiz. Friends may call Monday, June 4 from 6-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Bruce Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Cemetery, Deersville, Ohio.
