Maxine Snode

Maxine Porter Snode, 85, of Cadiz, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at the Harrison County Home. She was born July 13, 1921 in Athens Twp., Harrison County Ohio, the oldest daughter of Francis J. and Martha Bernice Ramsey Porter. She attended the Irish Ridge one room school and graduated from Cadiz High School and Kent State University. She taught in many one and two room schools in the area and eventually taught at and retired from the Cadiz Westgate School after thirty four years of teaching. She was a member of Scott United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Lisle Jones Circle, the Wesleyan Service Guild, the United Methodist Women, and a Delegate to the UM Annual Conference. She was a member and Regent of the Moravian Trail Chapter, DAR; a Past Worthy Matron of the former Harrison Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; Past President of the Harrison Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc., the Cadiz Women's Civic Club, Ourant School Restoration Committee, Harrison Home Health Board, and a volunteer and member of the Harrison Community Hospital Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, in 1968, by her husband, Wilbur C. Snode, whom she married in 1946; and by a sister, Betty Keyser in 2004. Surviving are three sisters, Marian Dennis of Cadiz, Janice and her husband, Luke Yager of New Philadelphia, and Kay and her husband, Chuck Singer of Louisville, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 S. Main St., Cadiz, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Scott United Methodist Church, 817 E. Market St., Cadiz, Ohio with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating.
