Mary Kathryn “Kay” Vaughan Spencer passed away on February 17, 2025. She was born on January 1, 1926, in Pomeroy, Ohio.
She was married for 71 years to Billy Joe Spencer who preceded her in death on August 4, 2019. She is survived by her children, Belinda of Phoenix, Arizona, Deborah (Lou) Coffland of Cadiz, Rebecca of Columbus, Gregory of Bellevue, Melissa (Steve Serriano) of Holland, Vaughan (Andra) of Raymond; 6 grandchildren including Paul (Michele) Coffland of Cadiz and Matthew (Catherine Fisk) of Cary, North Carolina; 8 great-grandchildren including Nicholas Coffland, Allison (Kerry) Anderson and Kara (Jodie) Hartyell, all of Cadiz; 3 great-grandchildren, Kolt, Ainsley and Kollins Anderson; she also had 6 brothers and 5 in-laws, and 37 nieces and nephews.
Kay graduated from Pomeroy High School and then went to work at General Telephone as an operator. She married Billy Joe in 1948. He also worked for General Telephone. They moved six times around Ohio while Billy Joe attained different positions within the company. His last move was back to Meigs County, and they retired. They moved to Cadiz first in 1966 and returned in 2014.
Kay was Methodist and was active in all the churches where they lived. She was an avid outdoor person and loved to garden. Many vacations were spent camping, hiking and sightseeing all over the country with children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren.
She may be known best in Harrison County for being seen walking. She and Billy Joe walked every morning all around Cadiz. Afternoons found them at Sally Buffalo Park. They also walked often on the Conotton Creek Trail.
Cremation has taken place. Private services will be held for the family at a later date. She will be buried in Meigs County next to Billy Joe.
