Mary Ruth Dicks

July 31, 1944 — February 25, 2025

Bloomingdale, Ohio

Mary Ruth Dicks, 80, of Bloomingdale, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2025. She was born on July 31, 1944, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Edwin Dean and Ethel Woodford McHugh.

Mary Ruth was a dedicated housewife, and dearly loved her husband, daughters, and grandson. She was also a dedicated and phenomenal caretaker, caring for her own mother, husband, and a dear friend through serious illness with selflessness and unconditional attention. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was an enthusiastic member of the Cadiz Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for decades, as well as the Steubenville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in recent months. She was a serious Bible student. She loved traveling with her husband, Sonny, throughout their marriage. She also thoroughly enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her free time. She loved cats, so much so that she lovingly called her daughters’ cats her “grandcats”. Mary was very meticulous in every aspect of her life, from recordkeeping to organizing and planning for anything and everything she could.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents and mother-in-law, Katherine A. Dicks, by her husband, Calvin John “Sonny” Dicks in 2024, a brother-in-law, James B. Dicks, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn A. Savoie.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Joelle (Scott) Wickham of Richmond, Ohio, Amber Jael (Justin) Sobota of Magna, Utah, and Adrianna Ruth (Jeremy) Williams of Bloomingdale, Ohio; 1 grandson, Gregory Scott Wickham II (fiancée Jenna Littleton) of Robinson Twp, Pennsylvania; her beloved cousins, Doree (Jon) Dodds, Bonnie Carrothers, and Karen (John) Duffield; a sister-in-law, Monica Dicks of Industry, Pennsylvania; a niece, several nephews, cousins and friends.
