Marion C. Gooding, 93, New Athens, Ohio died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz, Ohio. He was born February 14, 1914 in Pleasant Grove, Ohio a son of the late James Calvert and Pauline Babb Gooding. He was an electrician before retiring as a supervisor for Consol; a member of New Athens United Methodist Church; a 60 year member of Flushing Lodge #298, F.&A.M. where he was a past master in 1964; Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge; Royal Arch Masons #107, Bellaire; Bellaire Council #87; Freeport Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star #319; oldest member of the New Athens Volunteer Fire Department; former Mayor of New Athens in 1964; a life member of the North American Fishing Club and helped organize the former New Athens Fishing Club. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; by an infant daughter, Marian Louise Gooding; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 69 years that he married September 2, 1938 in Oakland, Maryland by Rev. Winfield S. Patterson, Mary Louise Pigott Gooding; 2 sons: James and Jan of St. Clairsville and Richard and his wife Linda of Cadiz; a daughter, Nancy Martin and her husband Harold of New Athens; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild. Calling hours will be held Monday, February 4, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with the Revs. Charles Mehl, Al Hoder and Chick Chanay officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to: Flushing Lodge, #298, New Athens U.M.C., New Athens V.F.D., or Harrison Community Hospital.
