Leslie Orr

Leslie J. Orr of Cadiz died peacefully at his home January 13 with his loving family gathered around him. He was born in Sewellsville, OH July 26, 1938 to Albert and Lydia E. Frances Orr. He graduated from Cadiz High School in 1956, served three years active duty in the Navy, serving on the USS Holder DDS for 2 years. He then worked for and retired from United Parcel Service after 34 years, being awarded many times for safe driving. He was a member of the Ohio Valley Recreation Club and he and his wife and five sons and families enjoyed many days on their ATVs. He was awarded "Man of the Year" for helping to organize the CERT Team (Community Emergency Response Team). He served as leader until he had to quit due to illness. He attended Asbury Chapel Church. Les was a devoted husband, father, friend and neighbor. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen Merryman Orr; five sons, Leonard (Marilyn) Orr of New Philadelphia, Ron (Terri) Orr of Portage, IN, Joe (Shelly) Orr of Jewett, Jim (Joyce) Orr of Lafferty, and Larry (Sarah) Orr of New Philadelphia; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his faithful dog, Baby Girl; three brothers, Ed (Judy) Orr of Wallace, WV, Dempsey (Mary) Orr of Flushing, and Dale (Suzanne) Orr of Flushing; four sisters, Bernice Jacobs of Ashtabula, Freda (Tate) Clark of Canton, Helen (Walter) Kimball of Cadiz, and Martha DeBertrand of Flushing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Harvey and Clem of Bannock and Mary and Shirley of Tuscarawas. Friends may call Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jon Little officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove. Military Honors will be performed by the Cadiz American Legion. Online condolences may be made at www.clark-kirkland.com.
