Laban Blackburn

Laban C. Blackburn (the Pride and Joy man), 88, of Hopedale, formerly of Cadiz, died Friday, December 07, 2012 at Gables Care Center in Hopedale. He was born June 29, 1924 in Parlett, OH a son of the late Laban and Lena Mills Blackburn. Laban was the Harrison County Recorder for twenty eight years, the former owner of Blackburn Jewelry in Cadiz, and a Real Estate Broker and founding partner at Homeland Realty in Cadiz. He was an Army Veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the Cadiz and Hopedale American Legions; the Harrison Masonic Lodge, 219, F. Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville; Aladdin Shrine of Columbus; the Jewett VFW; 40 & 8 Voiture; the Cadiz F.O.E.; the Clark Gable Foundation; the Harrison County Democrats and a former member of the Cadiz Lions Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Equitable Savings and Loan and a member of the Hopedale Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Rogers Blackburn in 2007 and a brother, Merle Blackburn. Surviving are a son, Scott (Carolyn) Blackburn of Cadiz; a daughter, Amy (Kendall) Norris of Hopedale; five grandchildren: Mindy (Garry) White of Flushing, Erik Norris of Hopedale, Chad (Jodi) Norris of Wintersville, Jason (Nikki) Davidson of Canal Fulton and Jessica Davidson of Worthington; six great grandchildren: Dalton, Evan, Trent, Jared, Brennon and Shelby. Friends may call Monday, 2-4 and 5-8 at Scott United Methodist Church, 817 E. Market St., Cadiz, OH, where services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery near Hopedale. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion. American Legion Services will be held at 5:30 p.m. and Masonic Services will be held Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the church.
