John Vich, 81, of Cadiz, died Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. He was born September 8, 1933 in Unionvale, Ohio, a son of the late George Veselinovich (Vich) and the late Julia Licina Vich Miller. John graduated from Cadiz High School and was a lifelong resident of Harrison County. He served as an Airborne Paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the C.E.O of Wilgus and Company and Forest Land Ltd., wholesale lumber distributors of building materials and erosion supplies to the oil and gas industry in Ohio, PA and WV. After 56 years, he went from working in the warehouse to Salesman, to Vice President, to President and Owner and currently remained active in the business. He was a Dale Carnegie Graduate and completed the Ohio State Lumber Course and the Ron Foster Business Course. He was a 20 year member of the Cadiz Village Income Tax Board and is an associate member of the Trustee Association. He was a former member of the Cadiz Business Association, the Cadiz Jaycees, the Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Harrison County Farm Bureau, the Ohio Lumbermen's Association, the Material Distributor's Association, the Cadiz Cardinal Boosters Club, and the Tri-county Cattlemen's Association. He was a avid supporter of Harrison County youth activities, including the 4-H Livestock Sale Committee, Fair Grounds and the many Harrison Central school activities. He was involved in refurbishing the Harrison County Bi-Centennial Barn, and enjoyed his friends at the Cadiz High School Alumni Association events. He was a member of Scott United Methodist Church, and actively worked his farm, including caring for cattle, making hay, etc. John's number one priority was family. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were most important to him. He supported them in all activities and interests. He gave guidance and love to each family member. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sophie (Joe) Dubinsky, Jane (Don) Mazeroski and Delores (Nelson) Cramblett. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Christine Postalakis Vich; two daughters, Pamela (Tom) Sprowls of Uhrichsville and Jackie (Joey) Ledger of Cadiz; a son Chris (Kim) Vich of Cadiz; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Jess) Riggs of New Philadelphia, Jonathan Sprowls of Cleveland, Jacob Graham and Jack Graham, Jesse Ledger, Zachary, Dawson and Kaydence Vich, all of Cadiz; three great grandchildren, Dalton Fulton-Riggs, Cayden and Brextyn Riggs; a brother, Paul (Naomi) Vess of Apex, NC; a sister, Mary (Louis) Basich of Adena; a brother-in-law, George (Paulette) Postalakis of Columbus and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 1-3 and 5-8 at Scott United Methodist Church, 817 E. Market St., Cadiz, OH 43907, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrison Central Boosters, the Harrison County 4-H Sale Committee or the Cadiz High School Alumni Scholarship Fund.
