John L. Carrel, 76, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Cadiz, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Aultman Hospice in Canton, Ohio. He was born June 12, 1932 in Holloway, Ohio, a son of the late Samuel B. and Elizabeth Johnson Carrel. Mr. Carrel was a member of the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church in New Philadelphia and served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was a retired Coal Miner from the Y. & O. Coal Company, was a member of the VFW, UMWA, volunteered at the New Philadelphia Homeless Shelter and was an avid dart and card player. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Brown Carrel in 1999; a grandson, Chris Reynolds; and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are a son John R. (Rick) and his wife, Jill Carrel of Cadiz; two daughters, Robyn and her husband, David Reynolds of Cadiz and Ronda Carrel of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren: Rick, Daniel, Zettie and Jessica; and two brothers, Marion Carrel of Brewster and Harold and his wife, Loraine Carrel of Flushing. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Cadiz Union Cemetery. Arrangements are by Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church, 2200 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, Ohio.
