James H. Kirkland, 82, of Stamford, Texas, died Monday, December 20, 2004 in Abilene, Texas. He was born June 9, 1922 in Shadyside, Ohio, a son of the late Clarence R. and Gladys White Kirkland. He was a graduate of Shadyside High School and The Ohio State University, with a B.S. in Horticulture. He was a retired customer service representative for the Dow Chemical Company and a Navy Veteran of WW II, having served in the South Pacific and the Phillippines. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Stamford, TX, where he was an Elder, and a representative to the Palo Duro Presbytery for over twenty years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the AACA Temple Shrine in Richmond, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Ripley; and two brothers, Kelly and Richard Kirkland. Surviving are his wife, Doris Jobe Watson Kirkland, whom he married June 12, 1971; a son Michael Watson of Abilene, TX; a daughter, Melissa Lomax of Alamagordo, NM; three grandchildren, Colin W. Jones and Sarah Jones, both of Lubbock, TX, and Chipper Watson of Abilene, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday, 6-7 p.m. at the Kinney Underwood Funeral Home, Stamford, TX. Graveside Services will be held Thursday in Highland Memorial Cemetery, Stamford. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Presbyterian Church.
