James Walter "Hog Jaws" Gribben, 90, of Hopedale, passed away at home surrounded by family members on Jauary 24, 2014. He was born April 24, 1923 in Betheny, WV a son of the late James and Lottie Buchanan Gribben. James is a retiree of Weirton Steel with 35 years and 9 months of service, a WW II veteran having served in the U.S. Coast Guard, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Weirton and Follansbee, a deputy Sheriff in Brooke County WV, a member of the East Warren Street Church of Christ in Cadiz, a member of the Weirton Steel 25 year club, the Wally Bayum Caravan Club; and he enjoyed camping, auto mechanics, vegetable gardening and talking to anyone who would listen. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; by his wife, Josephine Wisnowski Gribben; 2 infant sons and an infant daughter; a brother, John Gribben; and 2 sisters: Martha Sage and Pearl Hartley Gaillas. James is survived by a daughter, Jean (Corliss) Wetzel of Weirton; a son, David (Patty Midcap) Gribben of Hopedale; 4 grandchildren: Brian Wetzel, Curtiss Wetzel, Valerie Gribben (Mike) Efaw and David (Jennifer Cunningham) Gribben; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 26 from 1:00 until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m . at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz with Steve Smithbauer officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Holly Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by the Cadiz American Legion.
