James "Jim" Carter, 80, Cadiz, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was born April 29, 1929 in Georgetown, Ohio, a son of the late Comley and Elsie Hildreth Carter. In the early 1960s, Jim was an independent coal hauler, a former custodian at Cadiz High School, and a former mechanic with the Skeleton Road Crew. He was a retired mechanic for R&F Coal Company in Cadiz, Ohio. An Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a former member of the Cadiz American Legion and the Cadiz FOE. He achieved and for many years maintained his Boiler Operators License. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janet L. McKee Carter on December 17, 2004; three brothers, Doyle (Todd), Dick and Comely Carter, Jr., a sister, Ann Dudukovich; two step-brothers, Aubrey (Doc) Carter and Jack Chamberlain; and a step-sister, Elaine Rogers. Surviving are two sons: James C. Carter and his wife Diane and their children: Caitlyn, Nicholas, and Lizabeth all of Wadsworth and Thomas Carter and his wife Tami and their children: Kyle and Kaci all of Cadiz; a sister, Betty Robinson of Cambridge; a brother Chuck Carter of Concord, CA; a step sister, Linda Smith of Mt. Vernon, OH; and his close companion, Joan Chesla of Cadiz. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 7, 2-4 and 6-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. Funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, 154 West Market Street with Rev. R.J. Leek officiating. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio. Military honors will be performed by the Cadiz American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cadiz Presbyterian Church, 154 W.
