Howard F. Harkins, 80, of Jewett, Ohio, died Sunday at his home. He was born Sept. 22, 1928 in Bradley, Ohio, a son of the late Pearl Hugh and Mildred Riley Harkins. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church near Jewett and was a retired Welder from Consolidation Coal Co. He was a member of the UMWA, the Smithfield Masonic Lodge# 182, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Shane Harkins; three brothers, David, Earl and Bob Harkins; and three sisters, Virginia Thomeseski, Pearly Fellows and Eileen Young. Surviving are his wife, Louise Mills Harkins; two sons, Nolan (Amy) Harkins, Canal Fulton and Nathan (Barbara) Harkins, Tucson; four daughters, Dorinda Bashline, Hopedale, Helen (Ron) Bollo, Granville, Ohio, Kathleen (Danny) Schuman, Streetsboro, Ohio and Millie (Leonard) Cox, Hopedale, eighteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Harkins, El Paso, TX; and three sisters, Thelma Neeley and Shirley Fabry, both of Smithfield, and Mildred Morrelli of Wintersville. Friends may call Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Route 151, Jewett, with Rev. Rodney Bowers officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Hopedale American Legion. Masonic Services will be held Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
