Helen J. Sparkman, 84, New Athens, died Tuesday, November 26, at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, West Virginia. She was born, January 13, 1918 in Porter Falls, West Virginia a daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Hoskinson Cross. Helen was a former secretary having worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and a member of the House of the Shepherd in New Athens. Helen was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her husband, Don Sparkman; a brother, Virgil Cross; a sister, Betty Fergenson; and a great granddaughter, Annalisse Kalinowski. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Murphy and her husband Jerry of New Athens; a son, Donnie Sparkman of Durham, North Carolina; 4 Sisters: Florence Tomlinson of St. Clairsville, Mary Price and her husband Wayne of New Athens, Dolly Price and her husband Clive of Harrisville, and Bernadine Satterfield and her husband Joe of Bowerston; 2 brothers: Harold Cross of Bethesda and Kenneth Cross of St. Clairsville; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Calling hours are Friday, November 29, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where services will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Hamilton officiating. Burial follows at Ebenezer Cemetery, Bethesda, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be make to New Athens or Flushing Volunteer Fire Departments, or the House of the Shepherd.
