Helen Heavilin

Helen Lucille Heavilin, 83, of Cadiz, passed away at Gables Care Center, Hopedale, Ohio on October 10, 2011. Helen Poulson Heavilin was born on November 8, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Bernice Poulson of Stillwater. She was married to the late Harry Reed Heavilin who passed away on June 16, 2011. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this Christmas Day. Helen is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Ed) Lee of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Joyce (Gary) Brown of Cadiz and Annette McCue of Cadiz. A son, Butch Heavilin passed away on December 5, 2007. She is grandmother to Ronda (Fred) Smith of Findlay, Ohio, Adam (Patti) Lee of Longmont, Colorado and Trevor McCue of Cadiz, Ohio. She has three great-grandchildren, Emma and Landon Smith of Findlay, Ohio and Addison Lee of Longmont, Colorado with a new great-grandchild due in May 2012. She is survived by sisters Dorothy Miller of Millersburg, Ohio, Mary Baum of Columbus, Ohio, Janet Mallernee of Carrollton, Ohio, Carole Hillyer of Dover, Ohio and sisters-in-law Dorothy Poulson of New Philadelphia, Ohio and Lois Poulson of Freeport, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Poulson and John Poulson. Helen owned and operated Heavilin's Country Cooking and Bed and Breakfast. She will be remembered by everyone for her giving nature and her delicious cooking. She baked wedding cakes, catered many an occasion, made her own mincemeat, and served country style dinners with an elaborate flair. She had the ability to create a meal for any unexpected guest at short notice. All this was done with her being the perfect hostess. She enjoyed wearing hats and having her friends share in this tradition at her afternoon Tea Parties. Helen was a member of the Scott United Methodist Church and its Mary Ruth Circle, Harrison Community Hospital Auxiliary, Cadiz Business Association, the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Deersville Red Hat Society, and the Deersville Historical Improvement and Preservation Society. Helen and Harry were active in the local Farm Bureau and inducted into the Harrison County Farm Bureau Hall of Fame. The Cadiz Business Association also recognized them as Business of the Year. The Heavilin family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Gables Care Center for all their love and support during the past two years. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Hasley officiating. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery.
