Helen DeCorte Harris, 85, of Cadiz died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Harrison County Home. She was born July 19, 1926 in Maynard, Ohio, a daughter of the late John and Anna Cermak Romshak. Helen was a graduate of Franklin High School in New Athens, and was a well known as a Professional Dog Groomer in Cadiz for many years. Following the death of her first husband, she assumed operational management of the DeCorte Coal Company. She was the Chair of the Art Show at the International Mining and Manufacturing Festival. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred DeCorte in 1960 and her second husband, Harmon Harris in 2011; five brothers, John, Rudy, Carl, Fred and Henry Romshak; and two sisters, Ann Carrico and Judy McAnninch. Surviving are her daughter, Jana (Ray) Ferrell of Cadiz; three granddaughters, Lani VanAlstine of Augusta, GA, Laura (Shane) Cope of Cadiz, and Lisa Ferrell of Cadiz; four great grandchildren: James and Reed VanAlstine and Grant and Taylor Cope. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Longview Cemetery, New Athens. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
