Harry Reed Heavilin, 84, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his Route 250 home in Cadiz. He was born October 15, 1926, the only son of the late Harry A. and Wilma Auld Heavilin. He had always lived in the Harrison County area where as a child was reared on the family farm and continued to raise his family there. Harry married Helen Poulson, who survives, on Christmas Day 1948. Together they raised four children: Debbie (Ed) Lee of New Philadelphia, Joyce (Gary) Brown and Annette McCue, all of Cadiz. Their only son, Butch, died in 2007. There are three grandchildren, Ronda (Fred) Smith of Findlay; Adam (Patti) Lee of Longmont, Colorado and Trevor McCue of Cadiz. The family is complete with three great grandchildren: Emma and Landon Smith of Findlay and Addison Lee of Longmont, Colorado. One sister, Mary Jean Baker is deceased. He will be greatly missed by his Golden Retriever, Goldie. In his early years Harry worked as a farmer and helped local men with their crops by using his John Deere A, usually accompanied by his cousin, Ross Heavilin. He raised sheep, pigs, and cattle but his love was always horses and John Deere tractors. Harry worked for Consolidation Coal Company until his retirement and also drove semi-tractor for Carroll Transfer. He was a member of Scott United Methodist Church in Cadiz. Harry and Helen were active in the local Farm Bureau and were inducted into the Harrison County Farm Bureau Hall of Fame. The Cadiz Business Association also recognized them for the Business of the Year. Harry and Helen opened their farm for visitors of every kind. They were foster parents and had farm vacationers visit by the week. Baby Animal Showers and Antique Tractor Shows were held for several summers. Harry always said there would be no charge to attend. In later years he loved to display his collection of antique John Deere tractors on his front lawn. Everyone recognized Harry as he drove around Cadiz in his Chevy pickup with his two cement Dalmatians in the bed. Harry Heavilin was an icon in Harrison County. He always was proud of his family, his farm animals, his tractor collection, and his community.
