George Kovacik, 85 of rural Cadiz, passed peacefully on December 14, 2013 at Trinity West in Steubenville, Ohio. He was born March 24, 1928 in Adena, Ohio a son of the late Joseph and Julia Lukacena Kovacik. George was a member of the First Church of Christ in Cadiz, Local 283 of the United Mine Workers and AFSCME, having worked 35 years at Y&O No. 1 mine and Cadiz Portal and 10 years at Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army stationed in San Antonio, Texas. George was the last member of the ten Kovacik siblings, having brothers John, Mike, Joe, Pete and sisters Mary King, Ann Butler, Julia Tokos, Helen Rebovich and Elizabeth Howes all preceding his in death. George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Meda Carlon Kovacik; daughter, Kathy Miser and son Ed (Roxann) Kovacik all of Jewett; grandson, Brandon (Samantha) Miser of Conway, Arkansas; granddaughters: Kaci (Steve) Wright of Medina, Ohio and Mikayla Kovacik of Jewett; great granddaughters: Madyson Miser and Kadence Wright. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, December 17 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, 139 North Main Street, Cadiz, with Paul Giffin officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove following a luncheon at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Cadiz American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made in George's honor to the First Church of Christ, 139 North Main Street, Cadiz, Ohio 43907.
