Gary Lee Daugherty, 73, of Cadiz, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born on December 21, 1950, in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of the late Richard Lee and Dorothy E. Nichols Daugherty.
Gary, along with his wife Vicki, owned and operated Blackie’s Garage in Cadiz, Ohio. Gary started working at the fairgrounds after high school. He then became a coal miner, working for many years at Consolidated Coal Franklin 25 then to Franklin Highwall, Gradall, and then finishing his career at the Silver Spade. Upon retirement, you would find Gary with a contagious smile working in the garage with a McDonald’s coffee in one hand and a boxer by his side, most recently his best friend Max. Gary had a passion for tinkering with old cars, one of his prized possessions was a red 1965 Mustang that he had restored. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather uncle, cousin, and friend to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents; by a brother, Ralph Daugherty; brother-in-law, Chuck Harris, and nephew, Charlie Harris.
Surviving is his wife, Vicki Heavilin Daugherty, they were married January 21, 1970; 2 daughters: Robin (Matt) Dowdle of Cadiz and Tonya (Joe) Toto of Adena; son Corey Daugherty; grandchildren: Austin (Caitlyn) Dowdle, Kyle (Melissa) Yant, Alexia Dowdle and Ethan Toto; great grandchildren: Mason Yant, Carter Yant and Scarlett Dowdle; 2 step-grandchildren, Tyler Gross and Tori Gross; sister, Tammy Harris of Cadiz; brother, Rich (Teresa) Daugherty of Zanesville, Ohio; brother-in-law, Rich (Toni) Heavilin; and a number of nieces and nephews: including Shawn (Lisa) Daugherty and Crissy Zamski; Aunt Shirley (Ben) Barton of Florida, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 27th from 2-7 until time of the funeral service at 7:00p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz with Mark Smith officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Cadiz Union Cemetery.
