Frederick Leslie Dickinson, 96, of Dover, formerly of Cadiz, went home to be with the Lord after a long illness. Leslie was born January 5, 1915, a son of the late George and Ora Barker Dickinson and was born in Osage, West Virginia. He moved to Cadiz, Ohio, when he was a young boy. He was a member of the 1st Church of Christ in Cadiz since he was 15 years old. He enjoyed singing in the choir for more than 70 years and had an excellent bass voice. Since moving to Dover in March of 2009 he attended New Philadelphia 1st Christian Church with his wife and son's family. Leslie worked at Cadiz Feed Mill, Harmon Creek Coal Company and then Carson Petroleum, retiring in 1976. On October 12, 1938 he married his high school sweetheart, Anna Mae Laughrige in the parsonage of 1st Church of Christ. They celebrated 72 years of marriage on October 12, 2010 with an open house at their Dover, Ohio home. They lived in Cadiz for 68 years in the home they built until they moved to Dover in March of 2009 to be near their family. Leslie and Anna Mae loved travelling throughout the country camping. They also enjoyed spending time with their family on a pontoon boat which he built and took his family boating on Tappan and Piedmont Lakes. Leslie was a master gardener and kept his family and neighbors well supplied with the best organically grown fruits and vegetables ever tasted. Leslie enjoyed wood working projects which he gave to many family and friends. He also did a lot of projects for his church, First Church of Christ, Main Street, Cadiz, Ohio. Leslie was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by a sister Ethel Lisle of New Philadelphia, Ohio and a son and daughter-in-law James and Rosalee Dickinson of Canton, Ohio. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters: Janet of Bolivar, Ohio and Lynne (Darrell) Beeker of Homer, Alaska; a son, Larry (Vicki) Dickinson of Dover, Ohio. He is also survived by 2 grandsons: Nicholas and Kevin Beeker of Homer, Alaska and 2 granddaughters: Heidi (Brian) Swaney of Gnadenhutten, Ohio and Melissa (Chip) Hershberger of Dover, Ohio. He has 3 great grandsons: Brendan and AJ Swaney and Jake Hershberger and 1 great granddaughter, Victoria "Tori" Hershberger. He is also survived by one brother, William (Florence) Dickinson of Texas and one sister Marie Patton of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 15, from 4-7 and Wednesday, February 16 from Noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz with Paul Giffin officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio. Leslie will always be remembered by his favorite saying "Now wait a minute" when he thought folks needed to think things through a bit more.
