Emma Lou Giffin, age 82, of Cadiz, Ohio died and went home to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, February 13, at Ruby Medical Center, in Morgantown, West Virginia. Emma was born in Hocking County on February 4, 1943, to the late Hannah Rebecca Sinift Geil and Harland Geil. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Herold Geil, Ronald Geil, Martha Geil, Charles Geil, and James Geil.
Emma was a longtime member of First Church of Christ Cadiz, Ohio, where she was actively involved in a variety of ways. She served as church secretary for several years. She served in many capacities including as a children’s teacher, devoted member of the women’s Christian fellowship, and cook for many functions and events. Her love for children motivated her and Paul to become foster parents for more than twenty foster children. One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with family and cook all their favorite meals. She made each of her grandchildren, and great grandchildren feel like they were her favorite.
Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, Robert Paul Giffin Jr., her three children Paul Edward Giffin and wife Lynn of Cadiz, Bradley Joe Giffin and wife Kristine “Sissy” of Elizabeth City, NC, Valerie Sue Baker and husband John of Cadiz, twelve grandchildren, Jacob, Jesse and Benjamin Giffin, Haley Remenyi (Dakota), Caleb (Carrie), Jillian and Jonas Giffin, Alexis Giffin, Hannah and Lucas Warrington, Haley and Kylee Baker and five great grandchildren, Mason and Gracie Best, Aiden Cobb and Emorett Simmerman, August Giffin, siblings Carl Geil, Betty Ruth Patton, Wilma Kuhn, Helen Stimmel, Donna Coakley, Karolyn Brown, Russell Geil, and Peg Gortney.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at First Church of Christ, 139 N. Main Street, Cadiz, on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Brad Giffin officiating. Emma will be buried at the Cadiz Union Cemetery.
