Elmer Hood, age 69, of Cadiz, Ohio, passed away at home Tuesday March 10, 2020, peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Elmer was born July 9, 1950, in Steubenville, Ohio, to the late Elsie and Jackson Hood. Elmer spent the seventies as a coal miner, and in the early eighties and late nineties, he was the chief of security for D'Anniballe Security. Elmer spent a majority of his working life serving as the operations manager at the Fort Steuben Mall, and finished his career as the head of security and safety at Trinity Health Systems. Elmer is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Barbara Cole Hood, and his daughter, Carole Hood-Rodsky, with her husband Adam Rodsky, who was like a son to Elmer, and their daughter Raisa Rodsky who was his only grandchild. Elmer is also survived by his sister Jacqueline (Jackie) Boop, of Bergholz, along with several nieces and nephews, that all adored their Uncle Elmer, and several in-laws that loved him as their own. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Elsie and Jackson Hood, his sisters Mae (John) Johnson and Grace (Harold) Galloway, and a brother Frank Hood. Elmer loved basketball, he was an avid Steelers fan, and his favorite performer was Elvis. Elmer always loved people, and throughout his life, he was a constant protector to all of those around him. He loved his daughter Carole, and wife Barb, more than life itself. He taught many of the family kids how to drive a car, cared for them, and helping to raise many. He was known to be a great boss to many people during his working days. After receiving a heart transplant in 2015, he found endless joy by spending his second chance at life babysitting his first, and only granddaughter Raisa NiCole, who inherited not only his spunky personality, but also his beautiful curly hair. Thank you to Valley Hospice for the compassionate care of our Elmer. Family and friends are invited to join us Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 South Main Street, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Friday at 12:00 p.m. with Father Fred Kihm officiating.
