Elizabeth Welsh

Elizabeth Jane (Beck) Welsh, 99, of Cadiz, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Harrison County Home. She was born August 1, 1911 in Cadiz Twp., Harrison County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Arthur S. and Anna Kate Heavilin Beck. Mrs. Welsh was a graduate of Cadiz High School in 1929 and the Allegheny General Hospital Nursing School in 1932. She married the late Edwin B. Welsh on Oct. 27, 1932. They remained married for sixty seven years. Prior to his death they established the Welsh Family Scholarship with the Cadiz High School Alumni Association. Professionally, Mrs. Welsh held various positions as a Registered Nurse in Harrison County before joining the Harrison County Health Department in 1954. She retired in 1978 after twenty four years. A member of Asbury Chapel for thirty years, she moved her membership to Scott United Methodist Church in 1955. She was a member of the Moravian Trail Chapter of the DAR, Harrison County Historical Society, First Families of Ohio, Harrison County Genealogical Society, and was a former member of the Lisle Jones Circle at Scott Church and the Cadiz Garden Gate Flower Club. She was recognized at the Cadiz Community Awards Banquet as Citizen of the Year. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Birney Welsh in 1999; a son and his wife, Major Elbert Welsh and Rachel Welsh Keys; and two sisters, Frances B. Smith and Anna L. Logan. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Kenneth Welsh of Detroit and John (Debra) Welsh of Cadiz; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Jamey) Boone, Meredith (Magnus) Gustafsson; Aaron and Adam Welsh; and four great grandchildren: Abby and Andrew Boone, Annelie and Madeleine Gustafsson. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where services will be held Saturday October 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Matilda Heavilin officiating.
