Eleanor M. Birney, 81, of Cadiz, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Liza's Place in Wheeling. She was born March 27, 1929 in New Athens, Ohio a daughter of the late William Campbell and Georgianna Elliott Gillespie. Mrs. Birney founded Skyline Farms near Cadiz in 1960 with her late husband and in 1977 incorporated and served as secretary/treasurer until her death. She was a member of Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church, taught business and typing at Cadiz High School, was active with over 42 years of volunteer services with Harrison County 4-H, Key Leader in 4-H Genealogy, Harrison County Farm Bureau and the co-founder of the Harrison County Genealogical Society, a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, Harrison County Historical Society and First Families of Harrison County. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Birney in 2001 and an infant son, Edward. Surviving are three sons, Nelson (Maura) Birney, Donald (Dawn) Birney and Brian Birney, all of Cadiz; a daughter, Janet Birney of Cadiz; four grandchildren, Jason (Vanessa), Nicole (David) Viers, Jonathan and Amanda; 2 great grandchildren: Chad and Rylie Viers; a sister, Mary Martin of Harmony, Pa., and several nephews: David, William, and James Martin. Friends may call Sunday, January 9, 1-4 and 6-8 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jon Little officiating.
