Dr. Steven J. Covert passed away on October 10, 2010 on Hutchinson Island , Florida. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on March 20, 1958. Dr. Covert graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. His undergraduate degree was from the University of Pennsylvania, and he pursued postgraduate study at the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. He served his internship in Hollywood, Florida, and practiced in many Florida Hospitals, including Hollywood Animal Hospital and Flagler Beach Animal Hospital. He was co-founder and owner of Creekside Animal Hospital in Orange Park, Florida. His deep love for animals shaped his professional career and through his commitment he became a healer who touched so many. Through his ability, he was known to save pets that other doctors could not. He shared his life with his cherished cats: Albert, Raleigh, Ernst and Joe. He was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer who's passion was fishing, especially for Snook and Muskie. He regularly undertook serious fishing/camping expeditions with his best friends, Jerry Bansemer and wife Kim. He was active throughout his life, playing sports and enjoying the beach, surfing, skateboarding , skin diving, and any other active pursuit. Steven is the precious son of Alice M. Thompson Covert and and the late Robert W. Covert, the beloved brother of Linda, Bob, and Barbara Covert. He was the forever love of his soul mate , Cindy Wasserman and her son, Justin. He is the nephew of Ella Mae Perkins, Virginia and Louis Ullrich, Betty Jean and Ed Foster, Marsha Williams, Judy Kelley, and the late: Mary and Harley Johnson, Bob Perkins, Allen Thompson, William and Martha Covert. He loved all his family dearly and his cousins especially. Calling hours will be held Friday, October 15, 2010 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz from 6-9, where funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 with Rev. James McConnell officiating. Burial will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery. Steven's classmates at the University of Florida will be creating a Memorial Fund in his name to benefit Veterinary Science and Studies.
