Cadiz

Don E. Sickle, Jr., 75, of Cadiz, passed away at his home on Monday, October 2, 2023. He was born August 25, 1948 in Wheeling, West Virginia a son of the late Don E., Sr. and Frances Foster Sickle.

Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, 660th Transportation Co, serving from 1967-1972. He was a member of the National Guard #1485 Transportation Co from 1988-1992, where he served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm from 1990-1991.  He resumed service with the U.S. Army Reserve from 1995-2003. In total, Don served his country for 18 ½ years. He started working at Sickle’s Garage, worked as a Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy and part time Cadiz Police officer; a body man for ODOT; worked at Rural Transit and served as a Harrison County Dog Warden. He was Methodist by faith and a member of the Cadiz American Legion, Post #34.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Elizabeth “Midge” (Robert) Tolbert and Linda (Lawrence) Barnhart.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Candace Blankenship Sickle; daughter, Holly Sickle; a sister, Nancy (Larry) Pulka; several nieces and nephews, including: Lorrie (John) and Emily Jackson, Michael (Jennifer) Litman, Paula (Mark) Ledoux, Donna (Marc) East, Brad (Dawn) Barnhart, Larry Barnhart and Julie Barnhart.

Per his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 6 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Cadiz, Ohio. Military honors will be provided by the Cadiz American Legion. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Fairview Gardens Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking memorial contributions be sent to the Harrison County Dog Pound Volunteers, 82900 Toot Road, Cadiz, Ohio 43907
