David J. Thornton, 78, Jewett, died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at his home. He was born October 26, 1930 in Toronto, Ohio a son of the late Emily Thornton. David was a retired railroader for Weirton Steel, a member of the Hopedale Church of Christ and a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during WW II. David is survived by his wife of thirty five years, Helen Whitcomb Thornton; three children; three stepdaughters: Sandra Ott (John Kerr), Regina Smigiel (Bill Morris), and Joan Weaver (Tom Weaver) all of Jewett; a grandson, Chuck Weaver; two granddaughters, Daniela Weaver and Misty Holloway; two great grandchildren; two sisters, including Carol Mowry (John) of Wintersville; and a brother. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Dean Blythe officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Church Cemetery, Jewett, Ohio. Military honors will be performed by the Hopedale American Legion. The memorial guestbook may be signed at www.clark-kirkland.com.
