Darwin Lane (Blackie) Swelbar, of Cadiz, died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. He was born February 9, 1936 in Tippecanoe, Ohio, a son of the late Albert and Anna Exton Swelbar of Cadiz. He was a retired Superintendent at Consol. He belonged to the Cadiz Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Wheeling Shrine Club. He was also a Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Swelbar, Jr. and Kenneth Swelbar; and a sister, Gloria Davenport. Surviving is his wife, Wanda Shaw Swelbar. They were married August 15, 1955. Also surviving are two daughters, Diana (Pat) Frazier and Dara (Mark) Raber; granchildren: Darla (Jeremy) Moore, Chuck (Jamey) McConnell, and Samantha Raber; great grandchildren: Dylan, Dustyn, and Jabyn Moore and Breely McConnell; a brother, Gaylord Swelbar; a special nephew, Randy Gilbert. A special thanks to wonderful neighbors, Brent and Robin Blake. A memorial open house with family will be held July 13, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the home of Wanda Swelbar, 225 Harrison Ave., Cadiz.
