Betty I. Ferda, 85, Harrisville, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Liza's Place in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was born August 22, 1925 in Gandyville, West Virginia a daughter of the late Oscar and Roxie Martin Meddles. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Flushing where she was a member of the Catholic Women's Club and was a Red Cross Volunteer Quilter in Flushing. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband George L. Ferda in 1992; 2 brothers: Lloyd and Lawrence Meddles and an infant brother Robert Meddles. She is survived by 6 sons: Richard Ferda of Wheeling, Robert (Lynn) Ferda of Adena, James (Kathryn) Ferda and George (Shari) Ferda all of Flushing, Phillip (Debra) Ferda and Samuel (Misty) Ferda all of New Athens; 4 daughters: Theresa (Nelson) Furbee of Carrollton, Roxie (James) Williamson of East Springfield, Ruth (Larry) Utter of Harrisville, and Kathleen (Randy) Barylak of Flushing; twenty three grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a sister, Joyce Palmer of Flushing, Ohio. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz where Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Fr. Fred Kihm the celebrant. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, Harrisville, Ohio. Vigil service will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
