Bessie Hartley

Bessie M. Hartley, 96, New Athens, Ohio died Tuesday, April 8, at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz. She was born September 21, 1906 in Jackson County, Ohio a daughter of the late John Samuel Yates and Amanda Anne Abrams Yates. She was an Ordained Assembly of God Minister in 1929, a member of New Athens United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by her husband Lloyd Hartley in 1986, a grandson, 6 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by 4 sons: Lloyd, Jr. and his wife Doris of Sugarland, Texas, W. Paul and his wife Sheila of Yorba Linda, California, Sam and his wife Mary Lou of New Athens, and Joe and his wife Barbara of Pataskala, Ohio; a daughter, Louise Derfer and husband Charles of Columbus; a foster son Robert Bishop and his wife Lucille of East Palestine, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Calling hours are Friday, April 11, 2-4 and 7-9 at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 a.m. at New Athens United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Mehl officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to New Athens United Methodist Church, c/o Anna Belle Watson, P.O.
