Alma McCoy Kirkland, 78, of Cadiz, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Sunnyslope Retirement Center, Bowerston, Ohio. She was born August 7, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Wilson W. and Katherine V. Lamb McCoy. Raised in Freeport, Ohio, she was graduated from Freeport High School. As a young adult she lived in Columbus, Ohio, where she worked as an Optician and later as a Clerk for the Ohio Department of Employment Services. She married Richard Kirkland and moved to Cadiz in 1954. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz. Alma enjoyed her home on her hilltop and entertaining there. Her passions were gardening, cooking and reading. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Kirkland in 2000; two sisters, Virginia McLaughlin and Joan Bardall and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) McCoy. Surviving are a son, Jonathan L. Kirkland and his wife, Nancy of Cadiz; a daughter, Susan J. Kirkland of Columbus; three grandchildren, Andrew, Carolyn and Lauren Kirkland; a brother, John A. (Jack) McCoy of Cambridge; and brothers-in-law, H.W. (Wayne) McLaughlin of Columbus and John C. Bardall of Freeport. Friends may call Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, 172 S.
